At Lyndarum Family Dentist we are committed to ensuring our patients a comfortable dental implant procedure so today we’d like to share some of our management tips for dental implant pain.

Are Dental Implants Painful?

In the majority of cases, dental implant pain is manageable and mild and is usually at its worst when once your anaesthetic has worn off. Fortunately, dental implant pain improves as your body heals after your procedure, and while you might experience a little post-operative bleeding and swelling, you can expect to feel better in the week following your surgery.

To speed up your recovery and improve tooth implant pain, you may consider:

Anti-inflammatory pain relief

Some patients find over-the-counter medication takes the edge off and helps them cope with any post-operative discomfort.

Cold compresses

Cold compresses and ice packs placed to the side of your face may help to manage swelling and mild pain.

Dental Implant Pain

A liquid diet

A liquid diet of soups and soft eating foods like stews is highly recommended in the days following your surgery. Eating is important for recovery so make sure you have a supply of wholesome soups to keep your energy levels up. Chew on the opposite side of your mouth n the days following your dental implant surgery.

Keep your head elevated

Sitting upright or adding a few extra pillows under your head may assist with pain and inflammation, as it prevents the blood from pooling in your head

Don’t forget to follow your dentist’s recovery instructions so that you accelerate your dental implant recovery. This means to avoid smoking and not touching the wound with your fingers or tongue. If it seems as though your discomfort is not improving, or getting worse, you should contact your dental practitioner immediately.
